Popular Berbice businessman dies in early morning accident

A popular Berbice businessman died Friday morning in an accident at Moleson Creek, Upper Corentyne, Berbice.

Dead is Sahid Hamid, a contractor and businessman and the son of well-known businessman Imran Hamid, proprietor of Imran and Sons store in Rose Hall Town.

The accident occurred just after dawn.

Police sources have confirmed that Hamid was driving a 4×4 pickup at the time of the accident. He reportedly lost control of the pickup and drove off a bridge in Moleson Creek before landing in the nearby canal.

Regional Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus confirmed that the vehicle did not belong to Hamid but that he was test-driving the pickup since there was an intention to purchase it.

It was during that test drive that he lost control of the pickup. Hamid was pulled from the canal in an unconscious state and rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    Thank god he eliminated himself from driving in the public as he might have killed many others since the damaged vehicle exhibited SPEED.
