Body of missing fisherman found at Crabwood Creek backdam

The body of a man who left his home last Thursday to go on a fishing trip with two friends was discovered on Tuesday.

The body was identified as that of Gowcharran Persaud, 37, of Grant 1809 Crabwood Creek, Upper Corentyne, Berbice.

According to the brother of the deceased, Pravesh Persaud, his brother visited him on Thursday and told him he was going fishing with “Ameir” and “Bharrat”.

He added that his brother wouldn’t spend longer than three days out but on Saturday he was informed by “Ameir” that his brother was shot and killed by “Bharrat” but that he escaped to avoid being shot at too. He said “Ameir” told him his brother was shot at in Link Canal, Crabwood Creek backdam.

Following a Police report, a search was carried out and the body of Persaud  was discovered in a drain covered with “stuff.”

The body is presently at the Skeldon Hospital mortuary.

No arrests have been made.
