Buxton taxi driver gets $250,000 bail on rape charge

A taxi-driver was on Monday charged with rape of child under 16 years of age and was released on $250,000 bail.
The Guyana Police Force on Tuesday said Decorcy Hatton, 25, of Company Road, Buxton, East Coast Demerara was appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrates’ Court where the charge was read to him.
He was not required to plea and was placed on bail. The matter was adjourned until January 29, 2024 for statements.
The police said Hattan was arrested on October 10, 2023 by a rank from the Cove and John Police Station for the offence of ‘Rape of a Child under 16 years’, Contrary to Section 10(3) of the Sexual Offences Act, Chapter 8:03.
