2024 important year for Guyana; flurry of high-level delegations to visit

President Dr Irfaan Ali says 2024 will be an “important year” for Guyana, as the country gears up to take up key positions on regional and international bodies and host a series of high-level delegations.
Guyana will assume the chairmanship of CARICOM and will host a meeting of the leaders of the 15-nation trade and integration bloc early in the year.
Starting from January, Guyana will take up its role on the United Nations Security Council, starting off a two-year role as a non-permanent member.
President Ali will host a number of world leaders in the year.
Speaking at the 31st anniversary gala and dinner of the Private Sector Commission at the Marriott Hotel in Georgetown, he said high-level delegations will be visiting from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, India and Rwanda.
Early in the year, a number of high-profile speakers are expected to attend the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo.
Among the mega events in the year will be the hosting of the semi-finals and finals of the Caribbean Premier League and the hosting of the finals of the Women’s T20 cricket tournament on the Essequibo coast.
He said the country will start the process of establishing Guyana as the entertainment capital of the Caribbean.
