As the ‘One Guyana King and Queen of the Sand’ Inter-block football tournament heads into the knockout stages in Linden, Bakewell has hopped onboard as a corporate partner of the competition.
Through its Managing Director Rajin Ganga, the bakery company has thrown its full support behind the tournament, which kicked off on November 12 and will conclude on January 6, 2024.
The tournament features 28 male teams competing in a group round-robin format followed by knockouts, while the 12 females are playing in a straight knockout.
All matches are being held in the compound of the PPP/C Linden office.
“Bakewell continues to support sports across the nation as a form of giving back to the various regions and communities all across Guyana to help boost sports in general, while giving full support to enhance His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s initiative of One Guyana, bringing Guyanese of all races to come together as one using sports as a vehicle to help achieving this objective,” a release from the organisers highlighted.
Ganga confirmed Bakewell’s support for the tournament by presenting a cheque to one of the organisers Collin ‘BL’ Aaron at the company’s head office at Triumph, East Coast Demerara.
Ganga said Bakewell is pleased to be aligned with the competition, while Aaron is urging football fans to come out and witness the games, as admission is free for the entire tournament.
