GDF airlifts hinterland infants with breathing complications to G/town

Ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Sunday carried out two successful medical evacuations for an eight-month-old boy and a five-month-old girl, who were experiencing difficulty breathing.

The infants are from Kurukubaru, Region 8 (Pataro-Siparuni) and Imbaimadai, Region 7 (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), respectively.

According to a statement from the GDF, the infants were evacuated to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after they developed difficulty breathing.

“The crews were called at approximately 13:00 hours, and due to time of day and possible  weather  challenges, two aircraft were launched to the extract the patients,”GDF said.

The aircraft which evacuated the infant from Kato was piloted by Colonel Aziz Nazamudeen and Lieutenant Bibi Hakh.

The other aircraft was Imbaimadai was piloted by Lieutenant Shane Jones and Civilian Captain Gavin Harewood,GDF said.

While onboard the infants received medical care from medics Lance Corporal Desmond Pompey and Private Shaffon France.

The ambulance which transported them to GPH was driven by Corporal Mark Bernard.

The infants were accompanied by their parents.
