Police are investigating the murder of Tommy Roberts, a 35-year-old farmer of Wanakai Village, North West District, Region One (Barima- Waini), who was chopped to death on Monday night in his community.
Police Headquarters reported that Roberts and the suspect were imbibing at around 19:00 hrs when they got into a heated argument.
Roberts reportedly walked away but his attacker allegedly armed himself with a cutlass and chopped him several chops about the body. Police reported that Roberts attempted to flee but collapsed a short distance away.
It was noted that the altercation was reported to the Police and ranks from the Mabaruma Police Station alongside members of the Wanakai Community Policing Group hunted the suspect. He was eventually found hiding in some thick vegetation in the village.
The suspect was taken to the Mabaruma Police Station where he was placed into custody pending further investigations.
Meanwhile, Police said Roberts’ body was taken to the Mabaruma District Hospital where he was officially pronounced dead.
