Slingerz, Victoria Kings battle for final Elite League spot on Sunday

Will it be the inaugural champions Slingerz Football Club back into the Elite League, or will Victoria Kings Football Club keep their place when the two sides battle for the final spot in the upcoming Elite League on Sunday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue?

The powerful West Demerara side, Slingerz, would have hoped to book their return to the Elite League already, but they fell 0-1 to Berbice unit Monedderlust in the Promotion Playoff final on Sunday.

Now it will be do or die against Victoria Kings, who finished season five in the penultimate position with four points from nine matches, having won one match, lost seven, and drew one.

The GFF will award a preparation grant of G$1M to the club or clubs promoted to the Elite League.

The sixth season of the Elite League is scheduled to start in February and run until June-July.

The Federation aims to have the sixth season return to its original format where the ten teams play each other twice, resulting in 18 matches per team.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, season five of the league had nine matches per team, with the Guyana Defence Force FC winning their second title.

Western Tigers, Guyana Police Force FC, Santos FC, Den Amstel FC, Buxton United,  Ann’s Grove United and Fruta Conquerors FC are the other seven teams set to compete in the sixth season.
