President Dr. Irfaan Ali Thursday night disclosed that the government wants to purchase several small fire-fighting vehicles to be placed in Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) across the country.
“…We are working to buy a number of small fire-fighting vehicles with full capabilities, so in every NDC we can put one and train a local fire brigade,” President Ali said.
He said this move will complement the services of the Guyana Fire Service and potentially, prove more effective. He also said the government will be investing in fire hydrants and developing Guyana’s national fire-fighting infrastructure.
The President was quizzed about the government’s plans to improve firefighting during a walkabout in Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara on Thursday night.
Days before, the President expressed his displeasure at the recent performance of the Guyana Fire Service. According to him, the government is “not satisfied” that it is getting the “full value” for the investments being made in the Fire Service.
The Guyana Fire Service reported this week that there are confirmed reports of at least 17 fires in the first 10 days of 2024. Many of the fires brought destruction to buildings and vehicles and two persons lost their lives.
With so many thousands of homes under construction and more planned by the Govt., they have to cater for
FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT in those areas and fire hydrant every 200 feet, with water, of course.
I read last week the water tender-fire truck only holds 450 gals. water. That is small in comparison to my septic system which holds 1000 gals.
