Labourer, 33, dies in Mon Repos accident


A 33-year-old labourer died on Monday morning in an accident on the Mon Repos Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The dead man has been identified as Andrew Viramuthu of Mon Repos, ECD.
Police Headquarters said that an investigation has been launched into the accident which occurred at about 04:00hrs. Viramuthu was a pedestrian.
According to a Police report, motorcar PZZ 8045, driven by a 27-year-old legal clerk, was heading east along the public road when the driver alleged that Viramuthu ran across the road and into the path of his vehicle.
Before he could have applied brakes, Police said the driver claimed that the front portion of his vehicle collided with Viramuthu.
As a result of the collision, Viramuthu was flung into the air before landing on the road surface where he received injuries about his body.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver and the results showed a reading of .006 micrograms,” Police Headquarters said.
The driver was taken into custody and is assisting with the investigation.
