A midafternoon accident on the No.29 Public Road, West Coast Berbice (WCB) on Saturday resulted in the death of pedestrian Dale Douglas, 58, of No.28 Village, WCB.

The News Room was informed that the accident involved motor car – PAD 9006 – driven by Beesham Sukha, 42, of La Union, West Coast Demerara, motor car – PJJ 8599 – driven by Carlton George, 55, of No.3 Village, WCB and motor lorry GMM 5634.

According to reports, Sukha was heading east along the public road while George was proceeding in the same direction behind him, reportedly speeding.

It is alleged that Sukha slowed down because of a cow that was walking across the road when George overtook him and collided with the front left side of his vehicle, causing him to lose control of his car.

Sukha collided with Douglas who was walking along the side of the road and then slammed into the lorry.

Following the collision, the pedestrian was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor and pronounced dead.

Two breathalyzer tests were conducted on both drivers and both read zero. Both vehicles are lodged at the station, both drivers were placed into custody pending further investigations.
