Two arrested with $20M in ganja

Ranks of the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Monday arrested two persons in connection with the discovery of 55.2 kg (121 lbs) of cannabis at Block 1 Unity, Hubu Parika, East Bank Essequibo.

A press release from CANU noted that the discovery of several large bags containing several brick-like parcels was made during an operation at the location.

Latchman Sankar, a.k.a Jack, 39, of the said address, and Sanya Ramrattan a.k.a Shena, 36, of Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara, were at the location when the discovery was made.

They were escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the narcotic which tested positive for cannabis, amounting to 102 parcels with a total street value of approximately G$20 million. Investigations are ongoing.
