Weeks after President Dr. Irfaan Ali said a new “state-of-the-art” museum and art gallery will be built locally, Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh announced that the government has allocated funds to build those facilities.

The Finance Minister presented the 2024 National Budget on Monday at a sitting of the National Assembly, held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal, Georgetown.

And during that presentation, he said $2.7 billion has been set aside for the “continuous development of culture and arts” in Guyana, including the construction of the new museum and gallery.

Of that sum too, $100 million has been budgeted to support activities associated with the observance of the International Decade for People of African Descent.
