A 64-year-old man died after he was attacked by pit bulls on Tuesday at the Topoo village, in Corentyne, Region Six (East Corentyne- Berbice).
Dead is Latchminen Permaul, also called “Blackboy” of the Topoo village.
Latchminen’s wife, 61-year-old Sandra Permaul, told Police that her husband left home on Monday at approximately 17:00 hrs and headed to a liquor shop in Topoo. While there, he reportedly and imbibed for quite some time.
It is, however, alleged that the man left the shop and was making his way home but stopped at a street corner.
It is not exactly clear what transpired after the man stopped at the corner but Sandra told Police that someone told her son, Yoganand, that his father was found lying on the street corner after he was allegedly attacked by three pit bulls that escaped from a nearby yard.
Police Officers were taken to the area where Latchminen’s body was found. A closer examination of his body revealed bite marks to both legs, his hip and right hand. The neck of the man was also reportedly torn apart.
Police have since taken a 35-year-old man of Topoo into custody and he is assisting with investigations.
