A single mother of two from Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice is currently homeless following a fire that destroyed her house on Saturday last.

Jonnel Giddings, 25, a nurse by profession, said she was renting the 257-258 Fourth Street property for the past four years with her two children, ages one and six.

She said at around 21:30 hrs, while her children were staying with others, she left home to hang out with a few friends.

Later that night, one of her friends received a phone call that the house was on fire.

“He said Jonnel your house is on fire…he showed me a video and said your house is on fire.”

The young mother said she rushed to the location and by the time she arrived, the fire service was already battling the blaze.

Giddings noted that since the destruction of the house and belongings, she has been staying at her brother’s residence and while it has been difficult, she is hoping that she can start the process of getting back on her feet.

Giddings said her next move is to acquire her own house instead of renting.

According to her, she applied for a house lot four years ago but is still waiting to hear from the Housing Ministry.

The distraught mother is willing to accept assistance from anyone. She can be contacted on telephone number 669-4752.
