9 months jail, $153k fine for trafficking ecstasy


Joshua Josiah Mentore, the Pattensen, Georgetown resident who pleaded guilty to trafficking a quantity of ecstasy pills last month, was on Thursday sentenced to nine months in jail and fined $153,000.
The sentence was handed down by Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus (ag) at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Mentore was arrested on December 20, 2023, at Dennis Street, C Field Sophia, he had 34 grams of ecstasy in his possession.
He was later charged on December 23 and pleaded guilty to the offence. However, sentenced was deferred to Thursday, pending a probation report.
The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) in a statement said that during an operation in the area, Mentore was intercepted and searched, when 80 ecstasy pills were discovered on his person.
