Four-Day Practice: Perez and Nandu show form but miss out on centuries
Raymond Perez significantly enhanced his chances of securing a spot in the Guyana Harpy Eagles squad for the upcoming Regional Four-Day season, while Matthew Nandu boosted his confidence on the second day of the second practice match at the Meten-Meer-Zorg ground, West Coast Demerara.
With scores of 41 and 76* in the previous match, the uncapped Perez fell seven short of a much-deserved century while Nandu stroked his way to 82 for Kemol Savory’s XI.
The duo added 173 for the first wicket as their side reached stumps 311-9 in response to Kevlon Anderson’s XI’s first innings of 97.
Clinton Pestano (43) and Jonathan Van Lange (38) were the other men with significant contributions.
Led spinner Veerasammy Permaul has taken three wickets, while Malcolm Hubbard grabbed two.
Day three is scheduled to commence at 09:30h
The Harpy Eagles squad, which is expected to be named by January 26, will be boosted by the return of opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul and all-rounder Kevin Sinclair from the ongoing West Indies Test series in Australia.
However, other key players are expected to be absent for at least the first two rounds, opening up spots for fringe players.
The defending champions open their campaign against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at the Conaree Cricket Center in St. Kitts and Nevis on February 7.
