Opposition MP hospitalised after ‘slurred speech, physical tremors’

The Parliamentary Budget Debates were temporarily suspended Wednesday afternoon during the presentation of Opposition Parliamentarian Geeta Chandan-Edmond.

Mrs Chandan-Edmond’s speech appeared slurred and incoherent and Speaker Manzoor Nadir moved to take a break.

A statement on the incident from the Office of the Leader of the Opposition noted that as Mrs Chandan-Edmond’s approached the podium to make her contribution, “there were notable signs of slurred speech and physical tremors.”

The brief statement further added, “The Emergency Medical Technician stationed at the National Assembly was called in and recommended that she be immediately transferred to the Accident and Emergency Unit. We will update the public on her condition. Our thoughts are with her.”
