More than a year after she was found in possession of 556 grams of cannabis, Bibi Bano Akbar was recently ordered to perform 50 hours of community service after she admitted to the charge.

Akbar had initially denied the offence when she was charged on October 28, 2022.

In a brief statement, the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) said Akbar changed her plea to guilty when she appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Apart from the community service, Akbar was also fined $500,400.

Failure to pay the fine and perform the community service will result in her facing a three year sentence behind bars.

All those people found with drugs are just trying to survive and make a living. Give them a chance.
Conviction of drug offences is against their chances of legally finding employment.
