A 29-year-old Dartmouth, Essequibo resident, succumbed on Thursday hours after he was shot with a pellet shotgun by his 75-year-old grandfather during a confrontation.

Dead is Jerold Marks, a resident of Hoppie Street, Dartmouth, Essequibo.

Reports are that Marks and his grandfather shared the same home.

According to information reaching the News Room, on Wednesday, Marks accused his grandfather of owing him $100,000 and threatened to kill him.

As such, the elderly man made a report to the police and Marks was arrested.

However, Marks was eventually released from custody based on a request by his grandfather for him to be sent away with a warning.

But on Thursday morning, in a fit of rage, Marks picked up a piece of wood and began to damage his grandfather’s canter truck, the gate and other parts of the property.

This caused the suspect, who is a licensed firearm holder, to arm himself with his shotgun and discharged a round. The pellets struck Marks below the knees.

Marks was taken to the Charity Hospital and was later transferred to the Suddie Hospital where he succumbed after surgery.

The News Room was informed that the elderly is in police custody as the investigation continues.

However, at this time, the police are unable to say whether Marks’ death is as a result of injuries he sustained from the pellet.

They are, therefore, awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.
