The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has partnered with Roraima Learning Trust (RLT) to launch the Enhancing Community Wellness (ECW) ‘Eat, Move and Feel Well’ project which aims to promote the adaptation of healthier lifestyles in communities across Guyana.

The Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) launch of the wellness initiative takes place on Saturday, January 27 at the GFF’s National Training Centre in Providence, East Bank Demerara.

Exhibitors include the Ministry of Health, Eureka Medical Lab, Yoha Hub and Ansa McAl. ECW focuses on using education to drive social and economic progress through a healthier lifestyle.

GFF President Wayne Forde congratulated EWC on their regional launch and assured continued support from the Federation for future community initiatives.

“The GFF is happy to support and promote any initiative that encourages citizens to adopt a more healthy lifestyle. The goals of the ECW programme align very well with the obvious health benefits of playing football, regardless of your skill level, gender or age.”

“This is the spirit of football, it brings people and communities together in a healthy, wholesome, fun filled environment, which is what we plan to create on January 27 at the NTC. This will be the first of many collaborations between the GFF and ECW team,” the GFF top executive added.

The event will feature complimentary health check-ups, informative sessions by experts in the field of health, and an exciting five-a-side match between footballers and members of the public.

RLT Director of Projects Deo Phagoo revealed that the team successfully tested the project in Guyana with the core message of adopting healthier lifestyles to decrease the need for widespread medical interventions to treat health issues.

Phagoo explained that ECW seeks to become “the preeminent platform to address the growing principal public health scourges (diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular, etc.) by crafting culturally appropriate messages and delivering them effectively.”

“The objective of ECW is to cause participants to Adopt-Adapt-Adhere to continually healthier lifestyles in respect of what they eat, increase their propensity to move and pay closer attention to how they feel,” Phagoo added.

The event, which starts at noon, will wrap up at 18:00h.
