16-year-old Anthony Evelyn impressive on Endurance race debut

Anthony Evelyn looked a natural in his Hand-in-Hand powered Toyota Vitz, producing an extremely impressive performance to win the 1500cc class on debut at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) Endurance Race at the South Dakota Circuit.

Though a rookie, Evelyn drove his relatively underpowered car like a seasoned campaigner as he battled his way to the lead via some daring overtakes and consistent driving.

His fastest lap for the day was 1:35.58 seconds, which placed him sixth overall.

In a post-race interview, he thanked his team and sponsors and encouraged other youngsters to get involved in the sport. He looks forward to participating in the Rookie class in April’s race meeting.

His father, Keith Evelyn, a standout racer car driver, stated, “I was more nervous than him, but he certainly handled himself well.”

The senior Evelyn felt it was great exposure for his son and that they trained on most weekends for this success, and now he is in a better position as he heads into circuit racing.

He is expected to pilot a Toyota Glanza at the April meeting.
