The $30.3 billion which has been set aside in the 2024 National Budget for the Guyana Police Force (GPF) will go towards the acquisition of new assets such as vehicles and a boat to aid in crime fighting.

New police stations and mobile outposts will also be built and additional equipment will be purchased, according to Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Andre Ally.

He was at the time speaking on the ministry’s projections for this year during a live broadcast on Facebook.

Out of the sum, Ally said $6.6 billion has been earmarked for the construction of new police stations and mobile outposts along with the purchase of furniture and equipment.

“In this particular budget, we have $6.6 billion of capital investment that goes directly to the buildings, to furniture and equipment, a new fleet of vehicles for the Guyana Police Force,” Ally added.

He said the allocation is an increase compared to previous years.

With the new assets and infrastructure, Ally highlighted that not only will the force be boosted but it will be placed in a better position to tackle crime in the “evolving” country.

“Of course the country is now evolving and the Guyana Police Force is not being left behind. The Guyana Police Force is evolving as well,” Ally noted.

A sum of $44.8 billion has been allocated in the 2024 budget for the Ministry of Home Affairs which includes the Disciplined Services.
