Sean Thomas called ‘Yankee’, a Kitty, Georgetown resident was on Friday sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $112 million after he was found guilty of two counts of possession of a quantity of narcotics.
The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court. Thomas was found guilty of having over 124 kilograms of cannabis in his possession.
He was arrested by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) on January 11, 2023, within the vicinity of Mandela Avenue. Thomas was inside a motor vehicle with one occupant when he was intercepted.
A search conducted on the vehicle unearthed several parcels of suspected cannabis.
Further investigations were conducted and Thomas was escorted to an Eccles Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara premises where a search resulted in the discovery of several parcels of suspected cannabis, some of which were concealed in barrels.
Thomas and the other man, Bulah London, 41, of Eccles Housing Scheme, were arrested and taken to CANU’s headquarters along with the suspected narcotics.
The suspected narcotics tested positive for cannabis, amounting to 124 kg with a street value of approximately $37 million.
However, only Thomas was charged.
