Businessman’s house destroyed by fire

The Lamaha Park, Georgetown house on fire

A businessman is now counting his losses after a fire destroyed his Lamaha Park, Georgetown house at around 20:42hrs on Friday.

The two-storey wooden and concrete structure was owned by Andrew McBean, a businessman.

The Guyana Fire Service in a press release said upon receiving the distressed call, three appliances and a team of 15 firefighters were deployed to the location.

“Firefighters utilized a strategic firefighting approach to quell the flames, deploying one jet from the prison bowser tank supply in conjunction with water tender 85.

“This was facilitated as a relay system using light pump #182, working from a hydrant and open source,” the fire service said.

While they managed to put out the fire, the structure was severely damaged.

The burnt remains of the house

Due to the radiated heat, a neighbouring house also sustained minor damage.

Among the items destroyed for the house are its ceiling and one CCTV camera.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the blaze.
