Grand Coastal Hotel is proud to announce the newest addition to our culinary team, Peruvian Chef Fabio Sarmiento. With over fifteen years of experience in the culinary world, Chef Sarmiento brings a wealth of international expertise and a unique fusion of flavours to our food and beverage department.

Born and raised in Peru, Chef Fabio Sarmiento’s passion for cooking was ignited by his mother, who instilled in him a love for creating delicious dishes. His culinary journey has taken him on a global adventure, where he has worked in kitchens in countries such as Trinidad and Tobago, China, Thailand, Chile, Mexico, and now, Guyana.

Chef Sarmiento’s inspiration is deeply rooted in his cultural background, and his career has been driven by a desire to explore and incorporate diverse culinary influences and techniques into his craft. His travels have allowed him to pick up a rich tapestry of flavours, and he plans to infuse these experiences into his role as Executive Chef at Grand Coastal Hotel.

“I am thrilled to join the team at Grand Coastal Hotel and incorporate the flavours of my journey with our guests,” says Chef Sarmiento. “We aim to create a culinary experience that showcases the beauty of local ingredients while incorporating a touch of international flair.”

What Chef Fabio Sarmiento loves most about being a chef is the joy he brings to people’s faces when they savour his creations. “Seeing people smile when they try my food fills me with immense satisfaction,” he shares.

When asked about his favourite dishes to cook and eat, Chef Sarmiento shared, “When I’m in Peru, I love preparing ceviche and grilled chicken. However, here in Guyana, I’ve developed a fondness for roti with lamb curry.”

In his free time, Chef Sarmiento indulges his culinary curiousity by watching cooking videos and immersing himself in music, further fueling his creativity in the kitchen.
