Navin Thakur, Chief Executive Officer for Massy Distribution urged the Petra Organisation to unearth more talents in their 10th Milo Schools Football Tournament set to commence February 18.

Thakur reflected on Shamar Joseph’s meteoric rise in international cricket as a great example of the talent pool in Guyana, as this tournament could be the platform to launch future football stars.

The CEO stated, “We would want about five Shamar Joesphs coming out in football. I challenge the Petra Organisation to do this. ”

Petra Organisation’s co-director, Troy Mendonca, gave an overview of the upcoming tournament.

He pointed out that the competition is “a marquee tournament that has etched its name in school football history. We could have only reached this point because of the support of Nestle and its distributor, Massy.”

While Petra has invited some 52 schools across Guyana, that number has been whittled to 24.

Nestle’s Senior Business Manager, Teisha Milner, stated that her brand is elated to be on board with Petra and the Ministry of Education again. “It is something youths look forward to, and we are happy to give them that opportunity. We look forward to the intensity of the games as they unfold.”

This year’s tournament winners will get $300,000, while the runners-up will pocket $150,000, and third place will settle for $75,000.

Individually, there will be accolades for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), highest goal scorer, and best goalkeeper.

The Under-18 tournament will continue with its round-robin knock-out format, and matches will be played at the Ministry of Education ground and National Insurance Scheme ground on Carifesta Avenue.

The defending champions are Region One’s Santa Rosa Secondary.
