Reigning National Chess Champion Taffin Khan brushed aside all opposition to win the Open Category of the Grand Prix Two tournament, which ended on Sunday at the National Stadium, Providence.

Former National Women’s Champion Sasha Shariff dominated the Women’s category and copped first place in that division.

Both Khan and Shariff received G$20,000 each for their win.

Khan secured all his wins comfortably, but drew his match with Loris Nathoo.

Khan faced Nathoo late last year in a fast-paced playoff to determine the 2023 National Champion.

Queen’s College student Kyle Couchman was awarded a much-deserved second place. He displayed remarkable skills over the chess board to achieve the runner-up spot.

Anthony Drayton earned third place in that category.

Former National Women’s Champion Shariff overtook reigning National Women’s Champion Jessica Callender to clinch the top award.

Callender secured second and Queen’s College student Aditi Joshi came in third.

The eight-round tournament was sponsored by International Import and Supplies and attracted 14 female and 23 male players.
