Firefighters are actively working to extinguish a fire at Castle Hotel and Night Club, located on Chapel Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
According to the preliminary reports, the fire started at about 16:37 hrs; there were no injuries and all occupants reportedly evacuated the building safely.
The News Room understands that the three-storey concrete building is owned by businessman Errol Azar.
Water tenders #74 and #87, along with a Land Rover and their crews responded to the scene. The top floor of the building is still engulfed in flames, while the second floor has been destroyed.
Firefighters remain on the scene as they attempt to quell the flames in a timely manner and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
