Wickets and runs for Alimohamed, but Harpy Eagles behind

Ronaldo Alimohamed announced himself in First-Class cricket on Thursday, but Guyana Harpy Eagles were fighting to stay alive against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the second round of the West Indies Four-Day Championship at Warner Park, St. Kitts.

Hurricanes closed day two with a healthy lead of 216 with nine second innings wickets intact.

In the midst of the Hurricanes’ dominance, Alimohamed, in just his second First-Class game, picked up a maiden five-wicket haul and played a crucial innings to rescue Harpy Eagles from being asked to follow-on.

Resuming on 299-6, Hurricanes were dismissed for 352 with Alimohamed picked up 5-69 off 19.5 overs. Rahkeem Cornwall, who started the day on 39, scored 54 to complement opener Mikyle Louis’ 113 and Jahmar Hamilton’s 77 on the opening day.

Harpy Eagles then lost their top order cheaply, leaving Alimohamed and Veerasammy Permaul to lead a rearguard effort.

Alimohamed topscored with 41 off 56 (5x4s, 2x6s), while Permaul made 34 off 74 (4x4s, 1×6) and Kevin Sinclair 29 off 20 (3x4s, 2x6s).

Harpy Eagles top and middle order- Tagenarine Chanderpaul (0), Matthew Nandu (19), Raymond Perez (18), Kevlon Anderson (10) and Kemol Savory (5)- failed to kick on as Hurricanes took control to earn a first innings lead of 164.

Daniel Doram picked up 4-40 and Jeremiah Louis 3-42.

Batting a second time, Hurricanes closed on 52-1, losing Kofi James to Veerasammy Permaul just before the close for 14.

First innings centurion Louis is not out on 37, alongside Keacy Carty on one.
