Elite League: Resounding wins for Slingerz, GDF on opening night

Inaugural champions Slingerz Football Club and defending champions Guyana Defence Force Football Club got their desired three points on the opening night of the  KFC Elite League at the Guyana Football Federation’s National Training Facility, Providence.

Slingerz romped to an impressive 7-0 triumph over Monedderlust Football Club, while the defending champions won 2-1 against Santos Football Club in a rocketing start to season six on Sunday evening.

A new signing for Slingerz, Marcus Tudor, treated the fans with five goals, while the other two came from Darron Niles and Recardo Halley.

Tudor, who moved from Milerock in Linden, hit the back of the net in the 9th, 23rd, 39th, 48th, and 63rd.

Niles made his mark in the 76th, while Halley had an extra-time goal in the 92nd.

For GDF, Ryan Hackett (45th) and Malcolm Higgins (58th) scored, while Ryan Dowding (78th) scored for Santos.

Elite League action will continue on Tuesday at the same venue with Fruta Conquerors versus Ann’s Grove from 19:00h, and Western Tigers up against Buxton United from 21:30h.
