Police arrest wanted man sentenced in absentia in 2016
Oneil Melbourne was arrested by the police.
Oneil Melbourne, a 26-year-old resident from La Grange, West Bank Demerara, who was previously sentenced to jail in absentia in 2016, was on Friday arrested by Police.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the man was arrested by Corporal Benjamin of Kaikan Police Station in Region Seven.
The Police said the man was in 2016 arrested by Sergeant Chapman on Arau Mountain top.
He was charged with illegal possession of a 12-gauge single-barrel shotgun and three 12-gauge cartridges after he was arrested in 2016 and later charged. The court proceedings were carried out and he was sentenced in absentia to two years imprisonment for the illegal possession of a firearm charge and one year for the illegal possession of ammunition charge.
