Commanding wins for GDF, Western Tigers in KFC Elite League

Reigning champions Guyana Defence Force and Western Tigers extended their winning run in the KFC Elite League Season Six, asserting their dominance on Saturday night against Buxton United FC and Ann’s Grove FC respectively.

The clashes took place at the Guyana Football Federation’s National Training Centre at Providence, East Bank Demerara. It was the second match for all four teams.

In the featured match-up of the evening, Guyana Defence Force recorded a 6-1 victory over Buxton United FC. The action kicked off with Cedric Osburne impressively finding the back of the net in just nine minutes.

Despite Buxton United’s Tehav Gordon levelling the score with a remarkable goal 10 minutes later, the reigning champions showcased their resilience, dismantling their opponent’s defence, adding five more goals to their tally.

Colin Nelson netted one at the 37th minute, while Obumchi Benjamin contributed goals at the 45+2 mark and 63rd minutes.

Delroy Fraser joined the scoring spree at the 86th minute, followed by Ian Pooker sealing the victory with a goal at the 90+2 mark.

It was Western Tigers’ second victory in as many games

In the opening match-up, Western Tigers clinched a decisive 4-0 victory against Ann’s Grove.

The scoring spectacle featured contributions from Trayon Bobb (32nd), Andrew Murray (54th), Randolph Wagner (63rd) and Jermain Beckles (70th).

Ann’s Grove’s attempts to score a goal were consistently thwarted by the formidable defence displayed by Western Tigers.

Completing the list of 10 elite football clubs are Fruta Conquerors, Slingerz FC, Monedderlust, Guyana Police Force, Santos and Den Amstel. A total of 90 matches will take place at venues in Georgetown, West Coast Demerara, East Bank Demerara and Berbice.

Season Six is intense with teams vying for the prestigious top spot and the substantial first-place cash prize of G$2,000,000.

The stakes are also high for the second, third, and fourth-place finishers, with cash prizes of G$1,200,000, G$800,000 and G$500,000 respectively.

Upcoming matches: Slingerz FC versus Fruta Conquerors on March 5 from 18:30h, followed by Den Amstel against Santos from 21:00h at the National Training Centre.
