10,000 plants, 34lbs dried cannabis destroyed by cops

Ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Sunday destroyed 10,032 cannabis plants and 34 pounds of dried cannabis which were found on a farm at Ebini along the Berbice River, Region Six.

Police Headquarters said in a statement that ranks of Region Ten conducted a narcotics eradication exercise between 12:00 hrs and 16:30 hrs, during which four acres of marijuana farm land was located.

The farm consisted of 132 beds, each carrying 76 plants which range from 12 inches to 5 feet in height.

“A total of 10,032 Cannabis plants, with an average weight of 334.4 lbs, which is equivalent to 151.681 Kilograms, were found,” Police Headquarters said.

Thirty-four pounds of dried cannabis which is equivalent to 15 kilograms was also discovered.

The cannabis along with a makeshift camp were destroyed by fire.

No arrest was made.
