Last week, in collaboration with the Guyana Post Office (GPO), the Rotary Club of Demerara formally launched a commemorative stamp in observance of the Club’s 30th Charter Anniversary.
For the last 30 years, the Rotary Club of Demerara has been committed to making its community and Guyana a better place through its hundreds of community improvement projects, all guided by Rotary International’s seven (7) Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Water, sanitation, & hygiene, Maternal and child health, Peacebuilding and conflict prevention, Basic education and literacy, Community & economic development, and Supporting the Environment. The Club has remained committed to retaining its consistency in community support through medical outreaches and potable water projects in underserved, rural and remote areas, youth development and mentorship, supporting the environment through short and long term projects, developing local talent, myriad donations to those in need, and establishing libraries and literacy activities throughout Guyana.
Rotary International has been an avid supporter of Postal Services throughout the world since its inception in 1905, which has included collaborations to issue limited, special edition Rotary stamps from different countries over the years. Guyana and the GPO have contributed to this philatelic history in the past, issuing commemorative stamps for RI’s 75th Anniversary in 1980. The Rotary Club of Demerara is excited to take a further step in this initiative.
In addition to the Club’s logo and the 2023-2024 Rotary Theme “Create Hope in the World,” each image in the commemorative stamp represents an Area of Focus. Stamps and First Day Covers are available for purchase at the GPO as well as from the Club.
The Rotary Club of Demerara prides itself in being a transparent, dependable and stalwart institution in Guyana, and is excited to mark the Club’s 30 years of philanthropy by simultaneously contributing to Rotary’s philatelic history in Guyana as well as highlighting the Areas of Focus of Rotary in the hopes of amplifying Rotary’s work and garnering support for future generations.
The Rotary Club of Demerara would like to sincerely thank the Guyana Post Office for their enthusiasm and continuous support in bringing this project to fruition, and would like to thank all those who have supported the work of the Club over the last thirty years.
