Athletes from The Bahamas, Czech Republic and Suriname will descend on Guyana for the KFC Fitness Challenge on March 10 at the National Park.

The overseas contingent is among 30 top athletes expected to compete at the event, which is organized by the Guyana Fitness Games.

Last year, after several grueling challenges, Guyanese Omisi Williams and Semonica Duke emerged the fittest, winning the Elite Men and Women titles, respectively.

Noshavayah King, who has over 15 years of experience in the fitness industry, is the event’s lead coordinator and promised that the event that started in 2015 and has become a staple in the fitness community will be “bigger and better.”

This year, the Fitness Challenge will have categories for Elite RX, Masters, and Teens, all aimed at creating a platform for athletes to display and challenge their fitness levels. RX will have five events, while the Masters will do four or five events.

“These events will not only inspire athletes but also serve as a beacon of hope for spectators, encouraging them to prioritize health and fitness for a long [and]fulfilling life,” King highlighted.

This year, there are increased financial benefits across all events, which King believes will motivate athletes further.

While there are cash prizes from G$200,000 – G$100,000 for the top three Elite podium finishers, G$150,000 to $80,000 for Masters, there are also cash incentives for winning the various events on the day.

Director of Marketing at KFC Guyana, Sadia Strand, congratulated King and her team on their splendid achievements over the years, and she said that success motivated them to elevate their support to title sponsor.

The first event starts at 06:00h on March 10 in the National Park with a one-mile run followed by eight rounds of workout and then another one-mile run.

The second stage of the event commences at noon.

Admission is free for the morning session, but patrons will pay $2,000 to enter the National Park tarmac from noon.

Other sponsors in support of the event are Guyana Beverages Inc. through their Oasis Water brand, Mohamed’s Enterprise, MVP Sports, Lucozade, Star Rentals, Trophy Stall, Forrester’s Lumber and Building Complex, Genesis Fitness Gym, and Tech Pro Guyana.
