British High Commissioner, Jane Miller, in brief remarks at a ceremony Wednesday night at her Bel Air Residence, emphasised the importance of having tools to make informed decisions, especially in this digital age.

“We all use our phones and innovation and technology is the new thing that is helping us to accelerate so much of what we do.

“The UK takes cybersecurity incredibly carefully, incredibly seriously, and get safe online was just one of the instruments that we wanted to promote across the world to ensure online safety,” the High Commissioner said.

Cyber threats can cause incredible harm to a person, business and their financial reputation and for this reason, the NDMA and Get Safe Online have several campaigns that go into schools, communities and businesses to conduct cybersecurity sensitisation.

The organisation is among the leading online safety resources in the world and it was established in some 22 countries to assist with empowering individuals and businesses as they navigate websites.

“They [the ambassadors] go into schools, go into communities and they deliver sessions on using the internet, how to identify ransomware and how to identify spam emails, phishing…at this time it has engaged seven secondary schools and they intend to expand beyond these,” the British High Commissioner’s Political, Press, and Public Affairs Officer, Tianna Graham said.

The persons who received certificates on Wednesday underwent training and are now capable of strengthening the NDMA’s efforts to ensure that citizens are cautious and safe when browsing such as ways to avoid fraud, identity theft, viruses and many other problems encountered online.
