Police find gun, narcotics at makeshift mining camp

Police ranks on patrol Region Seven Wednesday night stumbled on a make-shift mining camp along the trail at Torroparau backdam, Lower Puruni River.

The ranks, who were on an A.T.V,  said as they approached the camp, they saw a male running away. The ranks gave chase but were unable to apprehend him.

The ranks searched a hammock tied under the camp and found a Taurus Pistol and one magazine with seven 9mm live rounds.

The ranks also observed a bulky plastic bag which, when opened, contained 147 small transparent Ziploc plastic bags with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The ranks took possession of the firearm, ammunition and narcotics. An investigation is ongoing to ascertain the identity of the person who fled the camp.
