First loss for Guyana in Women’s Super50 Cup

Guyana suffered a first defeat in the CG United Super50 Cup on Friday, losing to defending champions Barbados at St. Paul’s Sports Complex in Bassettere, St. Kitts.

Led by an unbeaten 69 from opener Kycia Knight and 32 from her twin sister Kyshona, Barbados surpassed Guyana’s 128, winning by four wickets in 41.2 overs.

Leg-spinner Nyia Latchman took 2-19, while spinners Plaffiana Millington, Sheneta Grimmond and Ashmini Munisar picked up a wicket each.

Earlier, Guyana were dismissed for 128 in 37.1 overs with skipper Shemaine Campbelle topscoring with 53 off 84 balls, vice-captain Cherry-Ann Fraser scoring 24 and Shabika Gajnabi 10.

Allison Gordon took 4-19. It was Guyana’s first defeat in three matches.

Guyana opened with victory over Leeward Islands and followed up with a win against Windward Islands Volcanoes.
