A 12-year-old boy of Reliance Settlement, East Canje, Berbice is now dead following an accident involving a truck that was driven by a 64-year-old resident of Canefield, East Canje Berbice.
Dead is Justin Totaram, a Grade Eight student of the New Amsterdam Secondary School in Berbice.
Reports are that the accident occurred at approximately 16:00 hrs on the Reliance access road.
The motor lorry, GMM 5087, was proceeding south on the eastern drive lane while the child was walking in the same direction.
The driver told police that he was making a left turn when he heard someone shout “hold boy hold!” causing him to stop.
He said when he exited the lorry, he observed a male lying under the vehicle near the back wheel. The victim was transported to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The body is presently at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
