Police on Wednesday arrested a 39-year-old labourer following the discovery of an unlicensed gun with ammunition and a quantity of cannabis at his Better Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) house.
Police Headquarters said the discovery was made at around 04:30 hrs during an intelligence-led operation.
The gun, a black Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine containing five matching rounds were found concealed in a black plastic wrap under the house.
According to the police, a further search was conducted in the yard and a black plastic bag with several transparent packages was found.
They all contained leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. The suspect was told of the allegations, cautioned and arrested.
He was taken to the Sparendaam Police Station, where the suspected cannabis was weighed and amounted to 2,338 grams.
While the firearm, ammunition and the parcels were lodged.
The suspect is likely to be charged soon.
