Munisar spins Guyana to victory over Jamaica in final round of Super50 Cup

Guyana ended the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup with victory over Jamaica, who were eventually crowned overall champions on Wednesday.

In the fifth and final round game at St. Paul’s Sports Complex in St. Kitts, Guyana won by five wickets.

It was Guyana’s fourth victory in five matches.

Led by another brilliant bowling performance from off-spinner Ashmini Munisar, who took 3-11 off six overs, Guyana dismissed Jamaica for 72 in 27.1 overs. Nyia Latchman and Sheneta Grimmond took two wickets each to back up Munisar’s efforts.

Munisar ended the tournament with 12 wickets, the most in the competition, including 5-15 in the last game against Trinidad and Tobago.

Rashada Williams with 31 and Chedean Nation with 20 were the only batters into double figures. In reply, Guyana coasted to victory at 74-5 from 17.4 overs.

Opener Mandy Mangru topscored with 24, while skipper Shemaine Campbelle scored 21 to continue her fine form in the tournament.

The players now switch focus to the T20 Blaze competition, which starts on March 17.
