Round Two of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and Women Football Association (WFA) Women’s League Division One will kick off on March 14 with an All-Star Game at the federation’s National Training Centre in Providence, East Bank Demerara.
On Thursday evening, fans can expect an exciting double-header with a friendly All-Star match featuring players from Guyana Police Force FC, Fruta Conquerors FC and Santos FC from 18:30h.
This will be followed by the main event- the Guyana Defence Force FC versus the visiting Pakuri Jaguars FC from 20:30h.
WFA President Andrea Johnson said the six participating clubs are primed and eager to dive into Round Two.
“We are anticipating a level of intensity and competition witnessed by fans in Round One.”
“The advancement of women’s football here hinges upon the dedication of players, clubs, coaches, officials and the backing of the Guyana Football Federation, FIFA, CONCACAF and all other stakeholders, including our corporate partners and the fans.”
Johnson added: “This month spotlights women and highlights the importance of investment in girls and women for the acceleration of genuine equality across all spheres, including sports. This is another step in the right direction.”
At the conclusion of Round One in December 2023, Guyana Police Force and Guyana Defence Force both had 12 points from five and four games respectively.
Fruta Conquerors FC, the youngest squad in the league, clinched third position with nine points.
Meanwhile, Potaro Strikers FC concluded the first round in fourth place with four points, while Pakuri Jaguars settled in fifth place with just one point. Santos FC failed to secure any points after four matches.
The league features a blend of former and current national players alongside rising young talents on the verge of stardom.
Games will be played at the GFF National Training Centre on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The competition will continue on March 26 with the Guyana Police Force FC against Fruta Conquerors from 18:30h.
