Two motorcyclists, ages 17 and 19, were injured on Tuesday night after they allegedly crashed into a pile of stones on the Enterprise Access Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), while trying to evade the police.

One of the injured teenager is Ramesh Prashad. The name of the other victim, who is 17 has been withheld for legal reasons. They are both residents of Non Pariel, ECD.

The incident occurred around 19:25hrs. The access road is currently under construction.

At the time, Prashad was riding motorcycle, CK 2959 while the other teen was on motorcycle CL 7572.

Police Headquarters said initial inquiries revealed that two police officers, who were on motorcycle patrol duty in the area observed the victims riding without lights.

Upon seeing the ranks, Police said the teenagers rode onto the access road, which leads to the Enterprise backlands.

At the time, the 17-year-old victim was heading east alongside Prashad. Both teenagers were speeding, Police said.

During the process, Police added that one of the teenagers rode into a pile of crush stones that was on the center of the road.

This caused him to lose control of the motorcycle, resulting in both falling onto the roadway.

By this time, Police Headquarters said the ranks had lost sight of both motorcycles.

“Subsequently, whilst proceeding in the direction that the motorcyclists had sped off to, heard a call for help and responded,” Police said.

Both victims were injured. They were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an ambulance where they were admitted.
