Junior Squash: Emily Fung-A-Fat hits perfect night; Sumner continues dominance
Emily Fung-A-Fat won in the Girls Under-15 and Under-19 categories on day five of the Woodpecker National Junior Squash Championships, powered by ENet, at the Georgetown Club Courts.
Fung-A-Fat defeated Jnae Singh 11-4, 11-0, and 11-3 in the U-15, then came from a first-set loss to topple Georgiana Fernandes 5-11, 12-10, 4-11, 11-9, 11-8.
Safirah Sumner continued her unbeaten run in the U-17 and U-19 divisions by defeating Kaylee Lowe 11-4, 11-6, 6-11, 11-2.
More so, Mohryan Baksh outplayed Joshua Verwey 11-3, 11-1, 11-2 to stay in the hunt for a top-two finish in the Boys’ U-19.
Likewise, Louis DaSilva consolidated his grip on the U-17 title by beating Shiloh Asregado 11-7, 11-5, 11-2.
In the battle of the TenPow brothers, the younger of the two, Justin, defeated Jeremy 6-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-1.
Jeremy rebounded later in the evening to better Nandishraj Singh 11-5, 11-2, 11-5, as Jacob McDonald also got a mixed night.
McDonald first lost to Ethan Bulkan 3-11, 4-11, 3-11 but rebounded to beat Egan Bulkan in the 6-11, 12-14, 11-4, 11-8, 11-9 in the U-13 category.
The tournament concludes on Saturday afternoon.
The tournament is vital to the Guyana Squash Association’s squad selection for the Caribbean Championships in the British Virgin Islands in late June.
