Police investigators are probing the murder of a 24-year-old woman, who was shot and killed by her sister’s ex-boyfriend.
Dead is Ashanti Liverpool, a resident of Dazzle Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Reports are that the incident occurred during the wee hours of Tuesday after the suspect, Stephen Hope, a security guard, showed up at the house looking for Ashanti’s twin sister, Ishanti Liverpool.
Hope and Ishanti shared a relationship, which she recently ended; a decision he was against.
The News Room understands that Hope, who was armed with a firearm, went to the twin sisters’ house in search of Ishanti.
The News Room was told that Ashanti came out of her bed to inform Ishanti, who was unaware of Hope’s presence in the house.
But Ashanti was shot from behind by the man.
She managed to make it to a neighbour’s yard where she collapsed and died.
Information revealed that upon committing the act, Hope turned the weapon on himself.
He inflicted a wound to his chest. Hope was taken to the hospital where he was admitted under police guard.
The weapon that was used in the shooting belongs to a private security firm where Hope works.
Investigations are ongoing.
