Pritipaul Singh Investments says will support family of mechanic who died in worksite accident

The management of Pritipaul Singh Investments, in a statement on Wednesday, confirmed that it is supporting and will continue to support the family of Ravichandra Seemangal who died following a workplace accident at the company’s wharf at Providence, East Bank Demerara.

The company expressed profound sadness and said in addition to an investigation by the Ministry of Labour, it has launched its own internal probe.

No mention was made of the driver who reversed a telehoist onto Seemangal, a mechanic who was riding his bicycle in the wharf compound.

“The Company which has been in the Seafood industry for in excess of 20 years, is currently the largest Harvester, Processor & Exporter of Seafood products in Guyana and possibly the Caribbean remains committed to the deployment of the highest standards of the Health & Safety standards in the industry in its operations.

“The Company’s commitment demonstrated by its adoption of the highest industry standards has been a key feature of its continued operations,” the statement added.

The industrial accident occurred on March 13 and Seemangal succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Woodlands Hospital on March 16, 2024.

This industrial accident is being investigated by Senior Occupational Safety and Health Officer, Darwin Bourne, and Occupational Safety and Health Officer, Ray Hosannah.

Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton continues to be concerned about the occurrence of workplace accidents, especially when workers are fatally injured.
