Through collaboration and the signing of several agreements, trade between Guyana and the Dominican Republic (DR) has “significantly” increased over the past few months.

Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Guyana, Ernesto Torres-Pereyra said that with growing interest here, the two countries are likely to achieve “great things” together.

“Our trade balance has increased significantly at the embassy. People are getting to know more about what you offer here in Guyana and what the Dominican Republic has to offer as a solid partner to supply some of the growing needs that you have here during this massive process of transformation in the country,” Ambassador Torres-Pereyra said during a press brief on Saturday.

The relationship between Guyana and the DR started to advance late last year.

Torres- Pereyra was accreditation as the DR Ambassador to Guyana in 2023. Subsequently, the Dominican Republic Chamber of Commerce was established here.

Following this, several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between the two countries to advance collaboration in the areas of energy, agriculture, infrastructure, tourism and security.

“We are very close in terms of distance and now with the opening of the mission we have never been closer.

“There is basically no limit to what we can do together,” Ambassador Torres-Pereyra said.

He said the private sectors of both countries have been working together to advance the agreements signed.

“In the western world we always want to see immediate results and we forget that a lot of processes take time…I am certain that we will bring great things together,” the Ambassador noted.

He noted that the partnership between Guyana and the DR is projected to bear “incredible” growth.
