Conal Husbands, 46, of Carmichael Street, Georgetown, died on Monday after his motorcycle collided with a car driven by another man, at Cummings and Church Streets.

Police Headquarters on Monday reported that the fatal accident occurred at around 06:15 hrs at the intersection and involved Lee Lawrence Holder, a 47-year-old of Paradise, East Coast Demerara, the driver of motorcar PAF 3166.

Husbands, who worked at Atlas Security Services Inc, was the driver of motorcycle #CM 2986.

Based on the investigation, police said the car was proceeding north along the western lane of Cummings Street while the motorcycle was proceeding east of Church Street. As the car and motorcycle approached the intersection, the driver of the car allegedly failed to stop at the ‘stop sign’ and collided with the motorcycle.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist was flung some distance onto the northern parapet of Church Street and sustained severe injuries.

Emergency Medical Technicians picked him up in a semi-conscious condition and transported him to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was seen and examined by doctors on duty.

He later succumbed to his injuries at about 13:00hrs.

The body was later escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The driver of the car remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
