Pan-Am Indoor Hockey: USA edges Guyana 5-4 in bronze medal match

Guyana’s impressive showing at the Pan American Indoor Hockey Championships concluded with them finishing fourth after a narrow defeat to the United States of America in Calgary, Canada.

It was another heart-wrenching defeat for Guyana’s male hockey team, which kept punching above their weight with numerous inspiring performances.

Two goals from Aroydy Branford and one from Tahrea Garnett and Jamarj Assanah gave Guyana hope in the bronze medal match.

Guyana lost 10-0 to eventual championships Argentina in the semi-final prior.

Team Guyana: Robert France (C), Medroy Scotland (GK), Paul D’Andrade (GK), Jarbari Lovell, Kareem McKenzie, Meshach Sargeant, Shakeem Fausette, Shaquon Favorite, Tahrea Garnett, Aroydy Branford, Jamarj Assanah and Andrew Stewart.

The tournament brought the best of America together to compete against the world powers, and qualification for the next World Cup, which will be in 2025, was at stake.

For the men, Argentina and Trinidad and Tobago secured a spot in the next indoor World Cup, while ladies from the USA sealed their faith.
